The Vatican Museums are one of the oldest museums in the world, with origins dating back to the 5th century. They are located to the north of St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. The museums comprise a vast complex of 26 museums and numerous galleries, with over 1,400 exhibition halls and a total area of 55,000 square meters, housing collections of ancient Greek and Roman artifacts as well as masterpieces from the Renaissance. In 1984, they were included within the UNESCO World Heritage Site designation of Vatican City.

The sculpture collection of the Vatican Museums is exceptional. It has a dedicated exhibition room that focuses on stone sculptures of various animals, including lions, tigers, elephants, eagles, dogs, birds, and snakes, resembling a stone zoo.

The treasures of the Vatican Museums are housed in two famous buildings: the Sistine Chapel and the Raphael’s Rooms.

The Last Judgment is a fresco painted by Michelangelo on the altar wall of the Sistine Chapel. It depicts the scene of God making the final judgment of all souls on the Day of Judgment. It is a milestone of Renaissance art, and an epic filled with human struggle, theological reflection, and political metaphor.

西斯廷教堂里的穹顶壁画《创世纪》也出自米开朗琪罗之手。这幅作品描绘了从开天辟地到大洪水和（诺亚）方舟的故事，被誉为 “绘画史上的神曲”。

The ceiling fresco Stories of Genesis in the Sistine Chapel was also painted by Michelangelo. It depicts the story from the creation of the world to the flood and ark,which is hailed as the “Divine Comedy of Painting”.

《雅典学院》堪称拉斐尔的巅峰之作,呈现了哲学家亚里士多德、柏拉图和数学家欧几里得等聚会讨论问题的场景。

The School of Athens is considered Raphael’s masterpiece, showcasing a scene of philosophers Aristotle, Plato, and mathematician Euclid discussing various issues.
